M-9 Fan Dance

The outer ring was supposed to be red and once again I ignored my own markings.  I’m eventually going to have to decide if I’m going to fix/redo all the blocks I’m unhappy with (or are wrong) or just let them go and finish this thing.

I didn’t get too many blocks done this week so I’ll save the big quilt shot for next week.

So I was walking around Target this morning waiting on the Pharmacy and finding all sorts of things that we ‘needed’.  I was looking through the Christmas area and saw some really neat wrapping paper and then a second later I realized why I liked it so much.  It looks exactly like a Michael Miller print.

I don’t want to acuse Target of copying, but it seems as if they were slightly ‘inspired’ by the fabric (at least in my opinion, whatever that counts for).

I’ve got three big projects to start but with Halloween and Jane blocks tomorrow, I didn’t feel like dragging out all the fabrics for those tonight and then have to clean them all up tomorrow (and then pull them back out on Saturday) so I just started on some DJ blocks tonight.

So G-6 was on my list.  This is just the center of the block and still has 1/8″ seam allowances all around.  I’m not sure whose sanity to question - Jane for coming up with the block in the first place or me for making one of these crazy things…

It’s a little skewed but there are also 17 pieces in a 1″ square so I’m thinking some error is allowed.

I can sew a quilt.  Anything other than a quilt?  It gets a little sketchy…

Exhibit A:  Liam’s Halloween costume.  Brownie points to anyone who can figure out what the heck he is.  (And he hated being in it.  Tomorrow should be interesting…)

(Yeah, it’s messy in there.)

The other quilt in the new pattern.  It looks completely different (to me at least!)

Ordered Chaos Patchwork Quilt Pattern.

This quilt is a study in coherent chaos and balanced scrappiness. Its long lines and almost spiral arrangement draw the eye through a mixture of fine detail and large spans of prints. This makes it perfect as a showcase for your favorite prints, be they abstract or traditional, as it can show off those tiny details and also highlight large prints and panels like paintings in a gallery.

Finished quilt measures 60 x 50 inches (152 x 127 cm).

Like windows looking out on a surreal Looney Tunes landscape of colorful circles, or a surreal gallery of modern art prints, this quilt’s brightly random blocks of psychedelic rings are wrapped in boxes and lines of a variety of bold and playful deco interpretations of florals. Made from a mixture of Kaffe Fassett prints.

Pumpkins

“What’s this? What’s this? What’s this?”  Maeve was never a “What’s this?” baby but Liam certainly is.  He doesn’t say anything else (not even mama or dada) but he does say “What’s this?” while pointing to anything he can get to.

Fun things for this week: sewing Liam’s Halloween costume (ack!), finishing up the next pattern (should be up mid-week) and the two quilts made from it.  Then I’ve got a bunch of custom stuff to do after that.  Phew.

92 blocks and 11 triangles totalling 2097 pieces.  My plan this week was to do lots of triangles and catch up with the group blocks.  Neither of those happened… not sure why… hmmm…

Fun with curved piecing.  I think it came out ok.

This is block #100.  Woohoo!

In an effort to avoid as much appliqué as possible, the outer triangles had some lines added so I could FPFP.

47! 47 pieces! Phew.

F-12 Starburst

Yes, another one.  Still working on clearing out the piles and piles of fabric… I have a long way to go!!

See more caterpillars.
