No. 005 — Ordered Chaos Patchwork Quilt Pattern

This quilt is a study in coherent chaos and balanced scrappiness. Its long lines and almost spiral arrangement draw the eye through a mixture of fine detail and large spans of prints. This makes it perfect as a showcase for your favourite prints, be they abstract or traditional, as it can show off those tiny details and also highlight large prints and panels like paintings in a gallery. Using straight lines and rectangular pieces, this quilt is straightforward to assemble, but the result looks anything but simple! Finished quilt measures 50″ x 60″.

Like windows looking out on a surreal Looney Tunes landscape of colorful circles, or a surreal gallery of modern art prints, this quilt’s brightly random blocks of psychedelic rings are wrapped in boxes and lines of a variety of bold and playful deco interpretations of florals. Made from a mixture of Kaffe Fassett prints.

A pattern for this quilt is also available.

“What’s this? What’s this? What’s this?”  Maeve was never a “What’s this?” baby but Liam certainly is.  He doesn’t say anything else (not even mama or dada) but he does say “What’s this?” while pointing to anything he can get to.

Fun things for this week: sewing Liam’s Halloween costume (ack!), finishing up the next pattern (should be up mid-week) and the two quilts made from it.  Then I’ve got a bunch of custom stuff to do after that.  Phew.

92 blocks and 11 triangles totalling 2097 pieces.  My plan this week was to do lots of triangles and catch up with the group blocks.  Neither of those happened… not sure why… hmmm…
