People Suck

So I went out to pack the car up this morning and found this.

That’s an Odyssey missing a window (ack, I just admitted to the world that I drive an Odyssey! Blech. )

Someone decided to try and pry the handle open. Then tried to pry the black part next to the window. Then they gave up and just smashed the window. At least they left a perfect palm print in the process. I don’t have much hope of anyone being caught though. And yes, stuff was stolen.

As much as that sucked, the hotel’s handling was even suckier. Now I know they probably have 800 pages of legalese stating that they are not responsible for this and that I understand. No manager ever came out to see what happened. The front desk did manage to call the cops. They had offered to help clean up but only if I pulled the car to the loading dock. Seriously. This was the driver’s seat. My tush was so not going to sit on this.

Instead they handed me a broom, dustpan and trashbag so I could clean it up myself. The cop was still around finishing up paperwork and helped clean up the seat enough so we could go around back. Now we had just spent seven nights here and paid a good amount of money on a suite and all they could do was hand me a broom. And no manager ever came around to even say sorry.

The cop was great. One that definitely gives cops a good name.

And in hopes of this post showing up in google searches looking for reviews I’ll add that this was the Doubletree (Hilton) Guest Suites at 2305 Hotel Plaza Boulevard in Orlando — in the group of non-Disney hotels on Disney property right near Downtown Disney.

So we got the window fixed and got on the road 2.5 hours late. My poor van still needs to spend some quality time getting beautified but in the big picture everything can be replaced and fixed, it’s all insured and no one got hurt. It just really sucks. I feel unsafe. Some evil person went into *my* car. I feel very violated.

Please pardon the bad writing. I’m on my phone since we’re still driving.

I am so sorry this has happened to you. I hope what you lost was easily replaceable. Thank you for sharing; I’ll keep this in mind next time we travel. Hope the rest of your holiday season makes up for this!

I am glad that you are all safe. Sorry about the loss and I know what you mean about feeling violated.

I’m framiliar with the feeling of being violated. My Honda Civic was broken into many years back – it’s a horrible feeling…the hotel should have been more understanding!!!

This is awful. I’ve had my house robbed so I know that terrible sick feeling you have. I can’t believe the hotel management treated you like that.. did they not have any security cameras that they could have shown the police? This IS Orlando, right? If it helps at all, I’m sorry you and your family had to experience this. It’s so sad that people have no remorse for taking what isn’t theirs.

Bastards!! I’m sorry. :( I’m glad it wasn’t worse but what a yucky thing to have to deal with.

Hope it didn’t spoil your good time.

Thanks everyone. I’m still pissed. I tried to keep the post clean (Jeri :-P ) but a lot of select words have been muttered over the past couple days.

I think there are tapes somewhere … the hotel did ask us about times. It didn’t spoil the trip while we were there but it’s spoiling my week so far. :-(
