Fabric Field Trip

Today Liam and I ventured to the wild, wild world of Winston-Salem, NC.

I  thought my 48.3 mpg on the way there was a fluke until I got 49.1 mpg on the way home.

Liam chilled in the back with a Wall-E book that he read over and over for 100 miles.  Not a peep came out of him … except for the random “WAAAAAALLLLEEEEEE!!!!!!” (And now he’s sitting in my lap reading the same book.)

So why Winston-Salem?  Doesn’t everyone go there on Tuesdays?

Nah, we had to visit Karen Gray Design’s new store.  I needed some new and different stuff for some upcoming projects and what she had was perfect.

Liam decided to start designing his own quilt with Pop Garden.

Great combo Liam!

I love her chandeliers.  I wonder if I could fit one over the kitchen table?

And I got some fabric while I was there too.

Whoops.

So that was our day.  If you’re in Raleigh, it’s a totally easy trip.  So go!  Have fun!  Drool at the chandeliers!

Okie dokie fellow quilter folk… I need your opinions!

I’m working on some patterns (for a late-May/early-June-ish release) and was making up a sketch today.  While it ended up looking very neat, it would not be the quickest quilt to assemble.  The technique is NOT hard. There’s just a lot of pieces.  I personally don’t mind hard quilts.  I view them as a fun challenge that will look awesome when it’s done but is this the norm?

So my question is:

– Quick pattern that could be pieced in a day or two but look a bit more simplistic…

OR

– Complex pattern that might take a week or two to piece but look totally cool when complete?

(OK, so the times are all a guess since it depends on how quick you are and how much time you spend on it per day, etc, etc.)

Your opinions are greatly appreciated (read: come out of lurkdom please!)!

And since lately this blog should be renamed Emily’s Kids instead of Emily’s Quilts, I leave you with this:

I was going to post this Monday and here I am Wednesday night.  Not sure what happened to the week…

1. I picked this up at a roadside stand the other day.  It’s so pretty.  Wonder how long it will be until I kill it?  Years ago I had a green thumb.  Then we moved to the woods with deer.  They ate my thumb maybe?

2. Speaking of the deer, we can now prevent the children folk from falling off the edge of the walls.  Yay! (No, that had nothing to do with deer.)

3. Crikey.

4.  Om nom nom.

5.  Quilt-y unmentionables.  I swear to never mention unmentionables here again but I had to share what I saw at Target.  Yes ladies, quilt-like, uh, yeah…

6.  Where the heck are all the quillts around here?  Last week was spring break so I didn’t get much of anything done.  All the other quilts are in my head trying to burst out. :-)

Happy Easter!

A very laid back day around here… collecting eggs  (and pinecones?!)…

… and attempting to get a picture of the kids together.  See how well that worked?

We had to… it’s Spring Break!

Sean, when can we move to the coast?
