She was so excited this morning that she bounced her way to the bus stop.

(I can’t believe I let her ride the bus. I still have her in a 5-point harness in the car. Gah! What was I thinking?)

She isn’t a fan of photos lately but I told her today I had to take pictures. I promised her a pedicure and she agreed. So I got my pictures and now she has yellow (yes, yellow) toenails.

Between the heavy backpack with all the school stuff and the steep hill I was afraid she was going to fall backwards.

And there she goes.

Afterwards Liam and I went out and passed the school (we pass it about a million times a day as we can’t really get anywhere without passing it first) and I totally wanted to go in and check on her. Sean told me I couldn’t. Hrumph.

Apparently she fell asleep during naptime. And she was still exhausted when she got home. I felt like a nap this afternoon too. School starts really early! Yawn…

But she (and I) survived. The first words out of her mouth were, “I stayed sitting on the bus!!” (Our conditions for her riding the bus were she had to sit, listen to the bus driver and learn our street name.)

She came home to a snack of cookies and milk and talked non-stop about all the coolness. Our school does a staggered entry so she’s home for the rest of the week and goes all week next week. And then Liam starts three mornings a week the week after. Sniff (and yay!).

Oh and the hair? School pictures are in three weeks. Grow hair! Grow!

Maeve came up to me this morning holding her head very oddly. I didn’t think much of it because she’s five and five-year-olds tend to do odd things. Then I realized that she looked different.

Maeve apparently decided that she needed a haircut (nevermind the fact that she got one less than a month ago).

So she cut her own hair.

A huge chunk right out of the front.

Four days before First Day of School Pictures. And the first day of school.

When I asked her if she had cut her hair, she said, “Yes, I’m sorry. But I wanted a haircut.”

(Note to self: No pics in the kitchen in the morning. The sun is blinding.)

I tried to take away the hacked look and I guess it looks slightly better now (the pictures if from before I tried to fix it). But it still looks really bad (am I going to Mommy Hell for saying that?). I guess I could take her to get a real haircut and get real bangs to cover it up but I hate bangs. HATE them. I just see them plastered to her forehead with sweat for the rest of the summer. Yuck.

The crime scene:

I told her she had to clean up all the papers and craft supplies so I could vacuum it up. Chances of her cooperating with this? Zilch.

So our insane, crazy month is coming to an end. I got a chance to breathe and play around with some new ideas but I’m not sure if they are good ideas.

Do you think these creatures cute? Can you tell what they are? Sean can but I also told him what they are so he doesn’t count. I would ask Liam but he would declare them all “FUR-FURs!!!!!!!!” A fur-fur? Liam’s word for every non-human living thing from ants to lions (but again, this is the child who called the man at the bank Ady (Daddy) and the girl on the sign at Target Mae (Maeve)) so he doesn’t count either.

<<imagine there are creature pictures here>>

Kindy starts in just a week and a half and a towel for nap/rest time was on our list of items to send to school. Though the ease of buying a princess towel was tempting, I had to go the more difficult route.

Meet Sleeping Beauty. Yes, a videogame style Aurora.

(She’s hiding from the camera.)

Welcome to Kindergarten. Now put your name on e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g.

Some detail.

There are two skin tones, three pinks in the dress and three golds in her hair. It was pretty difficult to pixelize such a complex drawing that had so much dimension. Getting Mario at the right resolution is a *lot* easier. The hardest part was the eyes but I think they came out ok. Defintely better than some of the earlier iterations of her. I won’t share those.

Liam had to test out the blanket too. (Funny thing. Liam is wearing his pixelated Space Invaders-ish PJs.)

Apparently he approved.

So Maeve is happily snuggled up with her new quilt in bed tonight. I wonder how long it will take her to ask for one for home once this one goes to school…
