Fall 2009 Quilt Market — Day -2

(Pics are from both an iPhone and Canon 20D so they vary greatly in quality!)

After way too much quality time in my car, I arrived in a very, very, very, very hot and humid Houston.

Originally Sean was to come with but the child-minding plans fell apart at the last minute so I was on my own.

The coolest part of the drive was probably going through the Atchafalaya Basin.

So I arrive in Houston.  Y’all sure do know how to stack your highway overpasses around here!  There were no signs for parking, registration and all that stuff that would be really helpful to a newbie.  (I started every sentence with, “This is my first time here…”  One AEX employee responded, “I’m so sorry! I hope you come back next year!”  Yeah.)  It’s been quite the crash course.

Anywho, being totally overwhelmed, I figure out where the car goes, where I go and how to get the stuff out of the car and into the booth.  Phew!

After a little bit of work I got it to this point today.  I ended up with a corner booth, which I hadn’t requested, just ended up with it.  I had the extra poles removed at the end of the day.

I saw Janice from home (hi Janice!) and my shall-remain-nameless, self-titled Quilt Market Doula.  Breathe, breathe, breathe.  All meetings started with, “I’m really smelly/sweaty/etc so you probably don’t want to touch me.”

Day -2 is mostly chaos. After I was beyond d-o-n-e for the day I wondered around just to see all of it.  It’s absolutely, completely surreal to be there after seeing the pictures over the past couple years.

This is the Superior Threads booths.  That’s a helluva lot of thread.

And then in the middle of all the chaos was a very perfect, completely finished Amy Butler booth.

I left for the night so I could find and check into my hotel.  I was in desparate need of a shower so I ordered room service, cleaned up and enjoyed dinner.

So tomorrow is getting the booth to look pretty and then Sample Spree.

Yah, there is a triple decker over pass by the george… I live in Minneapolis now and Houston drivers were so much nicer and roads were laid out so much better there. Have a good time~

I just saw your quilts from Market over at Kathy’s Pink Chalk Studio. I love your Another Brick in the Wall quilt – it just might have to jump into my basket!
