The last time I showed a full-out picture of scrap buckets was after sorting them so I could sew up the projects for Scrap Republic. While I didn’t write the book just to get rid of scraps, I must say it was a nice plus!

Where are we, almost exactly two years later, in terms of the Carolina Patchworks scraps?

It only got worse.

The February 21, 2010 buckets contained 102.3 pounds in the buckets.

The February 20, 2012 buckets contained a whopping 152.5 pounds. I had to check my math on that one. Wowzers.

Blue is the winner — coming in at a mega 28lbs 11oz! Orange (which I actually do like!) had the least at 4lbs 13oz. And humorously, 9lbs 7oz of leftover pixels. That’s after sewing the quilt.

That weight does not include the random cuts of yardage which have officially been declared scrap. Those are now taking up an entire bookshelf. (blurry pic, it’s dark today!) It was in one or two of those cubes when I wrote the book.

It could be condensed some, but then it ends up a mess when I try to find something. And sadly, it will grow too.

On that note, I’m going to go sew some scraps together — a scrap version of the yet-to-be-released-or-named No. 061.

My partner in crime, er, Kathy and I headed off to unchartered (for me) territory. Mystical Vashon Island. (Ok, no idea if it’s really mystical but I had yet to make it over there so it was at least new to me.)

So of course, being on a ferry, I had to take a picture of the *other* ferry. (These aren’t the 4 I usually take obsessive amounts of pictures of but the 3 that run this route.)

We went to visit Island Quilter — noted in this fall’s Quilt Sampler Magazine as a top shop. They did not disappoint.

That’s just one tiny part of the store. It was huge.

While Kathy was getting her bolts cut, I was flipping through the magazine and saw this ad at the end of Island Quilter’s highlight:

How very perfect.

Your chance to win a copy of Scrap Republic over at C&T right now. Entries due by 6:00 pm PST on Sunday, September 4th, 2011.

And here is the scrap stash as of now. Anything over 1/8 yard(ish) is folded and in the Wall o’ Fabric. These are (just) the buckets of tiny little scraps that most sane people would just throw away.

I’m happy to have a stock room in this house to store them in a not-so-pretty way.

And remember this picture from February 21, 2010?

119.8 pounds of scraps sorted so I could start with the book quilts. I did not buy or otherwise acquire a single piece of fabric for the scrap versions in the book. And look at how much I still have leftover now. Gah!
