Smile Inducing: Slaphappy

It just makes me smile. The colors and whimsy… I’m just a sucker for it.

Angie did such a fab job on this.

Did you see the rainbow?

This is the first time I got a quilt really dirty dragging it around for pictures. Thankfully a trip through the washer fixed it up just fine. Phew.

Thing 2 keeps insisting on being in the photos. I have a million pictures like this of late.

He also insists on helping me with pictures. He doesn’t have a camera of his own, but is a-ok with stealing an iPhone to use. I’m going to have to put him on cover duty from now on!

It was the perfect quilt for an October day in Seattle.

And the pier? I love quilts on this pier. Grey’s Anatomy has an obsession with it too:

That’s the extent of my chattiness today. I’m sick and grumpy and have a bazillion things to do. Off to the thingamajigger!

It’s an Enigma…

Just how does it work? It’s an enigma. Hence the name.

No. 056 — Enigma is slightly tangram based. Slightly insanity based. And all good.

Want to know what else is all good? It’s easy to put together.

Angela Walters did the quilting for this batch of quilts and I couldn’t be happier. I gave very little guidance because I was just spent, sapped and over-everything.

I pieced a twin for the sample quilt, but luckily with the power of a crop tool and nifty placement it works well on a king bed for photos.

The fabric is Curio and Grunge by Basic Grey — who seem to have some hold over me. I really love all their work.

I ran out everytime there was a pretty sky and took pictures of this batch. Unfortuantly on this quilt it took up most of the cover. But this is what was going on behind My Quilt Stand (who was standing on a bench so he was tall enough):

Because what’s better than one ferry? Three! Dude, the ferry trifecta. I love it. Every time. And I’m ok admitting that.

More quilting awesomeness.

And pssst… I just got them back from the printer. That was quick! I haven’t gotten a chance to update the listings so it still shows as pre-order but I hope to have the pre-orders in the mail tomorrow.

(And no, the PDFs aren’t done. Between life last week and these getting here super quick… They are next on the to-do list. And if you’re wondering why it isn’t an instant thing for me to do? The PDFs I send to the printer are formatted to get folded and printed in the most economical way while still staying super-pretty. The PDF Versions for sale are formatted to print on your home printer. I just have to go re-flow everything, change sizes, etc. It isn’t difficult, just takes time.)

So I hope you are amazed and confused … and want to make Enigma today! (I kinda want to make another one right now.)

Ready? Set… go!

No. 056 — Enigma

Question: how is it that a throng of various triangles can assemble themselves together snugly into a perfect rectangular quilt? And all without pesky triangular inset seams?

Answer: it’s a mystery! Or — well — an enigma. Good thing we have a pattern to help figure it out!

No. 057 — Slaphappy

The night sky is full of stars — but have you ever thought how the daytime sky might look sparkling with those same stars? Perhaps a little like this. Or perhaps not. No matter — this quilt can brighten up the day or night (or a cloudy Seattle morning)!

Crisp lines, strong shapes marching in lockstep — a quilt fit for a castle. Actually, now that we mention it, it actually resembles a castle. Either way, this quilt will look quite sophisticated in your own throne room.

Imagine a summer’s sky, a flock of sparrows flying north for the Spring. Or perhaps a rainbow. Heck, why not both at once? The point is that we have nowhere to be, nothing to do but gaze up and watch the shapes drift by.

No. 060 — Pomaceous

You’ve seen this somewhere, you’re sure of it. Perhaps a Fifties-era kitchen backsplash? Or the lobby to an ornate hotel at the height of the roaring Twenties? Good thing squares are timeless — and an even better that this iteration of a classic tile pattern is surprisingly easy to assemble. (I see the pattern every morning on our fifties-era shower floor. What about you?)

Chuck it off the Pier

I seem to do this often. The pier is closeby and as long as the tide is somewhat low it’s a great spot to take pictures of quilts. I seem to get the oddest looks though. A lady walked by this morning and was very intrigued by the whole thing.
